Salary Range

Starting at $26.17 per hour, with an additional $1.05 per hour with Level 4 School Nutrition Association Certification.

Start Date

August 18, 2026, for training and beginning-of-year preparations. Official school start date is August 31, 2026.

Schedule

Approximately 7:00 am - 2:00 pm school days; includes 10 paid holidays and accrues sick time.

Position Summary

Performs intermediate technical work preparing food, maintaining food preparation and usage records, ordering and maintaining food levels, accepting and processing food payments and deliveries, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Assistant Director of Nutrition Services and the Building Principal. Departmental oversight is exercised over all personnel within the department.

Essential Functions

  • Captains, monitors, oversees, and participates as required in the work of other employees engaged in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food
  • Ensures that foodstuffs are cooked in quantities according to menus, good dietary principles, and number of persons served
  • Prepares and maintains menu, special diet meals, and other various records
  • Inspects kitchen equipment, storeroom, food, and employees to maintain proper sanitation and operation
  • Instructs and trains other employees in the operation of equipment and utensils, and in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food in accordance with good dietary principles and food service methodology
  • Oversees and coordinates the cleaning and maintenance of culinary utensils, equipment, and working areas
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements and policies
  • Keeps accurate records of temperatures, staff scheduling, online payments, inventory, cash payments, lunch counts, and milk usage
  • Completes food orders online from vendors and the district warehouse
  • Tracks and approves timesheets
  • Orders and receives materials and supplies for food preparation and clean up
  • Prepares and maintains safety data sheets
  • Prepares the kitchen, equipment, and supplies for the end-of-year closing or summer maintenance
  • Provides customer service to students, staff, parents, extended day, visitors, and the general public
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education And /or Experience

A high school diploma or GED and moderate experience working in a food service role.

Special Requirements

  • Obtain School Nutrition Association Level IV Certification within one (1) year of hire
  • MN Certified Food Protection Manager required within six (6) months of hire
