Must attach a current Food Handler's Certificate from the County of San Diego (CA state food cards will not be accepted), submitted with application before the filing deadline. Certificates from other sources will not be accepted.
General Requirements
- Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance
- Submit to a general tuberculosis examination
- Be fingerprinted
- Complete a pre-placement physical examination
- Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States
- Pass a drug test (District has a drug-free workplace policy)
To be considered qualified, applicants must possess the relevant training, education, and experience, and successfully pass all examination parts to attain placement on the eligibility list.
Examination & Eligibility
- This recruitment establishes an eligibility list for current and future vacancies for the 2026-27 school year or within the life of the list (1 year).
- Candidates who complete all phases are ranked on the eligibility list by total examination score.
- When filling a vacancy, the top three ranked candidates are certified to the appointing power for selection.
- Employee service credit: Regular district employees receive 0.5 points per year of service (max 5 points) added to final composite scores.
- Veterans and disabled veterans receive preference points as defined in Education Code Section 45196.
Probationary Period
Newly appointed employees serve an initial probationary period not to exceed six months or 130 days of paid service (including worked days, approved vacation, and designated holidays).

- Holidays: 16 paid holidays for twelve-month employees (must be in paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday).
- Sick Leave: 12 days/year for full-time twelve-month employees (accumulates without limit; prorated for less than twelve months).
- Vacation: 12 days/year for full-time twelve-month employees (increases after 5 years; prorated for less than twelve months).
- Retirement: Employees working 4+ hours/day must join CalPERS and Social Security (District and employee contributions). Employees working less than half-time have full Social Security coverage.
- Shift Differential: 3.75% pay increase for shifts where more than 4 hours fall between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. (paid in equal monthly installments).
- Longevity Pay: Increases added to base pay effective July 1 after completing required years of service:
- 9 years: 3.5%
- 14 years: 7.123%
- 19 years: 12.158%
- 24 years: 16.644%
- 29 years: 21.310%
- 34 years: 26.162%
- 39 years: 31.209%
- 44 years: 36.457%
- 49 years: 41.915%
- 54 years: 47.592%
- 59 years: 53.495%
- Professional Growth: After one year of service, employees may earn additional salary increments for continuing education.
