Nutrition Services Assistant

About the role

Assist in preparing and serving meals, clean up, and related food service duties as required. Support the educational environment and the District's mission, vision, and Strategic Plan by modeling appropriate behavior and maintaining strong relationships with employees, community members, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of duties in the preparation, serving, transporting, and cleaning up after meals.
• Operate as a cashier for meals and snack bar.
• Prepare food service receipts as required.
• Participate in professional growth activities and respond to suggestions for improvement.
• Engage in meetings, workshops, and seminars related to goals, problem resolution, and District operations.
• Recommend solutions to address short and long-term needs of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous school food service experience in quantity cooking preferred.
• Possess a current food handlers card.
• May be required to have a valid State of Washington Driver's license.

Skills

• Ability to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lb).
• Experience in handling money and operating a cash register preferred.
• Ability to stoop, climb, sit, walk, stand, crouch, and perform related physical tasks.
• Ability to relate to students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to operate computers and copiers.
• Achieve minimum acceptable levels/scores in reading, writing, math, and technology assessments.

Pay

Salary range: $22.61 - $25.51 per hour (based on experience), paid at the 2026-27 rate according to the PSE Salary Schedule A.

Schedule

• Work Year: 180 days (regular school year plus paid holidays that fall within the school year).
• Paid Hours: 2.75 hours per day, Monday - Friday.
• Schedule: 10:00 am - 12:45 pm (hours may be adjusted to coordinate with students' lunches).

Work Environment

Job duties involve sitting, walking, standing, stooping, crouching, and climbing. May be exposed to high noise levels and may be required to deal with distraught students. Work is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
