Nursing Unit Secretary - NICU (night shift)
Description
MaineHealth is offering a $3,000 sign-on bonus for Nursing Unit Secretaries eligible for Full or Part-time NUS positions. The bonus is prorated for Part-time hires and not available for Per Diem hires. Current and former MaineHealth members are ineligible for the bonus.
About the role
The Nursing Unit Secretary role performs clerical, receptionist, and transporter duties. This role also involves advanced unit involvement in projects and house-wide activities. Ideal candidates should demonstrate excellent customer service skills, critical thinking abilities, and effective communication with team members, patients, and their families.
Responsibilities
- Perform clerical duties including data entry, filing, and record keeping
- Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage patient inquiries
- Coordinate patient transportation and ensure smooth operations within the unit
- Assist with unit projects and participate in house-wide initiatives
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Three years of secretarial experience, preferably within MaineHealth
- Current BLS certification (preferred)

Unit Bio
The NICU/CCN in The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is a 51-bed Level III-IV unit. It is the largest ICU in the state of Maine, featuring single rooms with state-of-the-art equipment. The unit works closely with various medical specialties, including surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, genetics, nephrology, and palliative care. It also has an active critical care transport team and a nurse-driven PICC team.
