Nursing Support Assistant, 9W - Hospital Medicine - Hyde Park, Full Time, Day Shift
About the role
The Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) works under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area. This role supports the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix
- Affords assistance with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques
- Affords assistance with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids
- Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients
- Affords assistance with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
- Affords assistance with the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
- Affords assistance with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment
- Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
- Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart
- Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR
- CPR/BLS Certification
- Ability to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form
- Ability to work in partnership with management and staff
- Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs
- Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials, equipment, objects and/or patients may be required
- Vision, hearing, and sense of touch must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs
