Responsibilities
- Supervise nursing and clerical staff
- Provide high-level nursing care to inmates/detainees
- Maintain a safe and secure workplace
- Manage relationships with correctional staff, nurses, contract providers, and agencies
- Ensure staff scheduling, coverage, and monitor overtime
- Recruit, onboard, supervise, and evaluate staff performance
- Monitor staff compliance with facility policies
- Perform audits of medical records, narcotic counts, referrals, and sick calls
- Maintain adequate medical supplies
- Train medical orderlies in sanitary practices
- Monitor serious medical conditions
- Follow industry and company accreditation policies
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree from an approved program; graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
- Current, unrestricted license to practice as Registered Nurse in the state the facility is located
- Two (2) years of direct work experience preferred
- Supervisory experience and competence in medical nursing care and psychiatric nursing care preferred
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Must be a United States citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
Physical Requirements
- Frequently: Lift or carry and push/pull up to 40 lbs.; walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop and reach above shoulder level
- Occasionally: Lift or carry and push/pull up to 60 lbs.; work with machinery and climb
