Nursing Station Technician - Pediatric Float Pool

About the Role

Join our team as a Nursing Station Technician at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, where you can make an impact on the physical, emotional, and cultural needs of pediatric patients and their families. Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we deliver a broad range of pediatric programs, including surgery, imaging, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, cardiac and oncology services, and blood, marrow, and organ transplantation. Schedule

This position involves working 56 hours every two weeks on the evening shift (3pm–11:30pm), with 8-hour shifts and every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). The Nursing Station Technician floats to all areas of the pediatric hospital, including critical care, transplant, oncology, and cardiology.

Responsibilities

This is a hybrid position combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties. You will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, demonstrating excellent customer service, collaboration, and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Duties include:

• Patient care, such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions, including answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking supplies
• Functioning as a “flyer,” performing EKGs, placing holter monitors, and responding to the needs of individual units

Requirements

Required License/Certification/Registration:

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. OnTrack participants must obtain this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND one or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (this requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech position).
