About the role
The Nursing Program Director role at Southwest Virginia Community College is a full-time ten-month teaching position reporting to the Dean of Health Technologies and the Vice President of Academic and Student Services.
Responsibilities
- Providing professional leadership and supervision to nursing faculty.
- Overseeing the preparation of the Course of Study of each nursing course and ensuring that the required documentation is provided.
- Preparing budget estimates for personnel, supplies, and equipment for the program.
- Assuming responsibility for all departmental equipment and supplies, including inventory management.
- Orienting new instructors to the program, expectations, and the courses they are teaching.
- Providing leadership for implementing institutional effectiveness processes within the program including, but not limited to the following: strategic planning, program review, student outcomes assessment, core competency testing, and graduate follow-up, using a variety of measures and institutional data to improve the program and processes as determined necessary and appropriate.
- Recommending to the Dean of Health Technologies new program personnel.
- Developing a detailed schedule of nursing classes for the Dean of Health Technologies.
- Maintaining records of program activities and making recommendations for changes in policies and regulations.
- Assuming responsibility for seeing that an effective program of student advising and student scheduling is maintained for nursing.
- Developing and maintaining cooperative agreements with health care agencies and SWCC.
- Representing the SWCC nursing program at state and national meetings.
- Preparing reports for the Virginia Board of Nursing and specialized accreditation agencies as required.
- Presiding at departmental Community Advisory Committee meetings and preparing the agenda for each meeting.
- Aiding the faculty and Enrollment Services staff with the preadmission process.
- Directing publicity and marketing for the program, including college catalog and web-based information.
Qualifications
- Current unrestricted or multistate license to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia.
- Master’s degree in Nursing required.
- Proficient with computer technology including use of a PC and relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders important to the College required.
- An acceptable background check for successful candidate is also required.
- Two years related nursing experience required.
- Candidates must be proficient in oral and written communication in the English language.
- Nursing leadership experience at the community college level.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $67,334 to $102,445 per year.
Schedule
The work schedule is 7:45a to 4:30p, Monday – Friday. Schedule may vary depending on class schedule. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
