Nursing Practice Specialist - Cardiac ICU - MGH

About the role

The Ellison 9 Cardiac ICU is a 16-bed adult unit focusing on critically ill cardiac patients. The unit deals with conditions such as hemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation, ventricular assist devices, CVVH, hypothermia after cardiac arrest, recovery from coronary procedures, and more. The role involves working in a patient and family-centered environment, providing psychosocial and emotional support.

Responsibilities

• Develops educational programs and clinical decision-making strategies.
• Manages quality outcomes and participates in research activities.
• Provides patient care in the clinical environment, health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and patient and family counseling activities.
• Formulates diagnoses and manages treatment plans for patients and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in caring for critically ill cardiac surgery and medical cardiac ICU patients.
• Experience leading evidence-based practice, quality improvement, staff education, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a complex academic critical care environment.
• At least 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience.
• At least 2-3 years of clinical education experience.
• At least 1-2 years of nursing leadership experience.

Skills and Abilities

• In-depth knowledge of clinical nursing care practices and principles.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in developing and implementing evidence-based care plans.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
• Leadership abilities to provide guidance, mentorship, and education to nursing staff.
• Ability to stay updated on the latest advancements in nursing skills and patient care through continuous learning and professional development.
