About the role

The Nursing Instructor (EMS) plays a crucial role in advancing the health of patients and communities by developing and delivering specialized training programs in an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system. This position involves planning and developing course content, conducting formal didactic training, supervising practical application of patient care principles, and evaluating the effectiveness of training.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyze training needs for nursing personnel.
  • Develop and implement specialized training programs for EMS personnel.
  • Conduct formal didactic training sessions.
  • Supervise and instruct staff in applying patient care principles in clinical settings.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training using evaluative tools.
  • Participate in studies and projects to improve EMS training content and patient interactions.
  • Monitor and approve pre-hospital care training and education programs.
  • Ensure compliance with County agreements and local EMS agency policies.
  • Collect and evaluate medical data for the EMS system.
  • Represent the department on committees related to nursing training and education.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience, within the last five (5) years, in the practice of professional nursing in an acute care setting, with one (1) year in an emergency department.
  • Certification as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) in Los Angeles County or eligibility for certification.
  • A current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Desirable qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field, experience with EMS systems, and additional certifications.

  • Ensure the Certificates and Licenses Section of the application is completed.
  • Provide the title(s) of your required certification(s) and/or license(s), along with their dates of issue and expiration.
  • Applicants must meet the professional licensure and experience requirements for MICN certification.

Physical Class

This class requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and up to 10-25 pounds frequently.
