About the role
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) seeks two instructors for the Registered Nursing Program. One position is located at the Southern Gap campus in Grundy, Virginia, and the other at the main campus in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. These are full-time, nine-month teaching positions reporting to the Dean of Health Technologies and the Vice President of Academic and Student Services.
Responsibilities
- Teach Fundamentals, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics, Psychiatric, Geriatric, Maternal and Pediatric Nursing in the classroom and clinical environments;
- Advising students on curriculum and career goals;
- Work with other nursing faculty members to develop and evaluate curriculum/courses as required;
- Establish and assess student learning outcomes and participate in institutional effectiveness initiatives to include assessment and program reviews;
- Integrate concept-based nursing education principles;
- Teach courses via distance learning media;
- Maintain ten office hours per week;
- Serve on college/program committees;
- Participate in college, community and professional activities;
- Pursue professional growth and development activities in his/her discipline(s);
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders important to the College;
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current unrestricted or multistate license to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia;
- Master’s degree in Nursing;
- Proficient with computer technology including use of a PC and relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Student Information Systems (SIS) and Learning Management Systems (Canvas);
- Two years recent, related nursing experience;
- Acceptable background check for successful candidate;
- Successful teaching experience at the community college level;
- Operation of a State Vehicle;
- No supervising employees.

Pay
$52,905 to $68,297 annually.
Schedule
7:45a to 4:30p, Monday – Friday. Schedule may vary depending on class schedule. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
