About the role

Blue Ridge Community College is seeking a full-time, 9-month Nursing Instructor to teach in its two-year Associate Degree Nursing program. The program prepares students to become beginning practitioners of nursing in various health services facilities and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing (VABON). The program consistently surpasses NCLEX pass rate benchmarks set by the VABON, reflecting the dedication of its faculty, strength of its curriculum, and hard work of its students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and simulation instruction to nursing students.
  • Teach content focusing on client care across the lifespan.
  • Deliver instruction within a concept-based curriculum.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and students.
  • Facilitate a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process for selected candidates.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) AND active enrollment in a BSN program.
  • Current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse (or eligibility to obtain immediate licensure), unrestricted and undisciplined.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in direct patient care as a registered nurse.
  • Dedication to the community college mission.
  • Experience using a variety of computer software programs and ability to learn new ones, particularly related to simulation instruction and electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to teach students effectively and always ensure a safe environment for patients and students.
  • Passion for the field of Nursing and for teaching.
  • Ability to use creativity, innovation, and compassion to instruct and engage students.
  • Ability to teach a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent acute care experience in a hospital setting.
  • Previous teaching experience in a clinical setting.
  • Use of instructional technologies.

Schedule

The schedule varies each semester pending student enrollment and clinical and simulation scheduling. The position is off during the summers and has time off during each semester’s break and around the holidays.

Pay

The hiring range is $55,000 – $75,000.

Travel

Required travel related to clinicals.
