Nursing Education Specialist/RN-Nursing Educator- Inpatient Pediatrics General Care & Specialty Services

This is a 100% FTE salaried position typically working Monday through Friday, day shift hours. Some off-hours or weekends may be required, and hours may vary based on operational needs. Primary work location is American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH) in Madison, WI, with occasional travel to the UW Health Administrative Office Building.

Pay

Pay range is based on a full-time (100%) position and is prorated based on FTE. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified applicants.

• RN-Nursing Educator Pay Range: $90,552-$135,784
• Nursing Education Specialist Pay Range: $97,764-$146,646

About the Role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to lead onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing professional development for nursing staff across pediatric general care and specialty inpatient areas. This role supports nurses caring for diverse pediatric populations, including hematology/oncology, bone marrow transplant, immunology, neuroscience, ENT, plastics, medical/surgical, behavioral health, trauma, and transplant patients.

You will partner with clinical leaders and interdisciplinary teams to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs that promote safe, evidence-based pediatric care. This includes supporting innovative pediatric programs and unit growth, such as a specialized pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant population and a new pediatric short-stay unit expansion.

Serve as a clinical education resource for nurses caring for both short-stay and complex pediatric patients with a wide range of medical, surgical, and psychosocial needs. Collaborate with fellow nurse educators, CNSs, managers, and program leaders to advance nursing excellence, support system-wide initiatives, and foster a culture of learning across American Family Children's Hospital.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Please note there are two job titles with different qualifications:

RN-Nursing Educator:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required.
• Must obtain a Master's degree in Nursing in a relevant specialty within five (5) years of start date Required.
• Three (3) years of relevant nursing experience Required.
• Previous experience as a nursing educator Preferred.
• Five (5) years of relevant nursing experience Preferred.
• Experience in an academic medical center Preferred.

Nursing Education Specialist:

• Master's Degree in Nursing Required.
• Master's Degree in Nursing Education Preferred.
• Three (3) years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required.
• Three (3) years of relevant clinical nursing experience with position-specific patient population Preferred.
• Three (3) years of experience providing orientation and education for nursing staff in a clinical setting Preferred.

Requirements

• Three (3) years of pediatric inpatient nursing experience, with experience in pediatric hematology/oncology, medical-surgical, and specialty pediatric populations strongly preferred.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification Upon Hire Required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months Required.
• National certification in relevant specialty Preferred.
