Nursing Director, Perinatal Services

POSITION PURPOSE

Under supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Nursing Director plans, implements, directs and evaluates the nursing care for assigned units for Perinatal Services. Coordinates the delivery of patient services; creates and maintains an environment conducive to learning. Provides for the development and evaluation of staff. Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system. Accountable on a twenty-four (24) hour basis for the management of all facets of nursing activities for assigned unit(s). Assures that nursing care meets legal, ethical, institutional, and professional standards. Participates in the Hospital's Quality Improvement and Service Excellence programs. Interprets and facilitates the application and implementation of the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the department and organization.

Ensures integration of the department(s) into the primary functions of the organization. Creates a collaborative, productive work environment through positive relationships with senior leadership, other directors, physicians, employees, patients/families and the community.

Responsibilities

• Makes rounds on patients.
• Investigates incidents and patient complaints, performing service recovery when possible.
• Maintains quality control programs, as appropriate.
• Participates in the budget planning process by making recommendations for resources, including personnel, equipment and space as appropriate.
• Ensures completion of all employee records including but not limited to: payroll, performance evaluations, competencies, personnel action requests etc.
• Coordinates and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement processes for the nursing unit.
• Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing, BSN preferred.
• Experience: Two years of Charge RN experience & prior Nurse Manager experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediately eligible. Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support & Neonatal Resuscitation certifications within 90 days of employment.
