Nursing Director - Children's Nursing Services

Job Summary

To direct, manage, and coordinate the operational activities of assigned departments or areas in the hospital and clinics. To ensure that processes and procedures in patient care are in compliance with UMMC and regulatory standards. To provide guidance and leadership in the delivery of optimum patient care.

Education & Experience

• Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in nursing and four (4) years of progressive leadership experience. Master's degree preferred.
• Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement.

Certifications, licenses or registration required

• Valid RN license, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification in Nursing Administration or ACHE Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates the daily patient care operations of assigned areas and ensures compliance with applicable regulatory statutes.
• Collaborates in the establishment and implementation of short-and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness; recommends and implements measures to improve the delivery of optimum patient care.
• Maintains an organizational structure and staffing to accomplish organizational goals and objectives; supervises employees to include scheduling, training, evaluation, and problem resolution.
• Participates in the planning, preparation, and prioritizing of operating and capital budgets for areas of responsibility; monitors and investigates variances to improve the overall use of resources.
• Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
• Ensures that transparency is an organizational value through the sharing of outcomes and results and the promotion of effective two-way communication between management and employees.
• Leading change to improve nursing quality and patient experience.
• Mentor nurse leaders to make evidence-based decisions, and how to improve the quality, throughput and productivity.
• Represents assigned areas on appropriate committees.
• Collaborates with medical staff and other interdisciplinary caregivers in planning and facilitating optimum patient care.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
