About the Role
The Nursing Assistant/Ward Clerk/EKG Tech works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing specific care to assigned patients, administering simple treatments, and providing bedside care. This role promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff while adhering to established hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assists Registered Nurse with nursing care of assigned patients according to established policies and procedures.
- Takes and records temperatures, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure accurately.
- Documents patient care, vital signs, and intake/output (I&O) in the Hospital Information System.
- Performs EKGs.
- Provides for the general comfort, welfare, and safety of patients.
- Handles ward clerk duties as needed, including computer entry, ED log maintenance, and managing heavy phone volume.
- Maintains cleanliness of patient work areas and patient care unit equipment.
- Responds to patient call lights promptly and provides necessary assistance.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by Management.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Minimum 6 months of working experience in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to lift and transport patients.
- Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.
Preferred Qualifications
- NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification.
- One year of patient care experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Computer knowledge.
Physical Demands
- Standing and walking 95% of the day.
- Heavy lifting and transporting patients.
- Visual and auditory acuity.
- May require travel to other locations to support operational needs.
- May require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
- This position may be designated as “essential,” requiring employees to remain at work or report to work during institutional emergencies.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Pay
$27.03 per hour.
Schedule
Per Diem.
