Nursing Assistant Trainee
About the role
The Nursing Assistant Trainee provides general nursing care in Acute Care/Long Term Care to non-acute and/or acutely ill patients/residents while maintaining a safe and clean environment. The role requires the use of a Hoyer lift for non-ambulatory patients/residents and involves responding calmly and making sound judgments in emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Mentally handles a caring attitude towards both acute and non-acute patients/residents and their families.
- Works at a rapid pace with constant pressure to complete staffing assignments and respond to patient/resident call lights.
- Maintains accountability for all actions taken and accepts delegation from a supervising Registered Nurse.
- Provides nursing care for the adult and geriatric population, including tasks such as bed baths, oral hygiene, hair care, back care, dressing patients/residents, applying treatments for heat and cold, and collecting and transporting specimens.
- Performs bed-side care, such as repositioning patients/residents, lifting and turning them, assisting with toileting, feeding, and personal care items, changing linens, and preparing rooms for patient/resident admissions, transfers, emergencies, or discharges.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment by preparing nursing areas and patient/resident rooms, cleaning utility rooms, reporting equipment issues, and disposing of waste according to organizational policies.
- Floats to other departments as needed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Requirements

Qualifications
- No prior experience required.
- Must be able to follow instructions and demonstrate relevant scope of practice when caring for patients/residents, including proper infection control practices.
- Knowledge of equipment use and understanding of normal and abnormal patient/resident findings.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a clean work environment and confidentiality of patient/resident information.
