Overview

Nursing Assistant Stepdown – UnityPoint – St. Luke's – Sioux City Downtown. Hours: PRN (as needed). Provides direct, hands‑on patient support across nursing units under the supervision of licensed staff. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, promoting safe ambulation and transport using appropriate equipment, accurately documenting care and treatments, monitoring patient safety and condition, and promptly communicating observations and changes to the care team.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) according to hospital procedures and report all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to the nurse in charge.
• Assist with ambulation of patients and use assist devices as appropriate to protect patient and staff member.
• Restock rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment.
• Attend appropriate training programs, unit meetings and other mandatory meetings.
• Participate in unit improvements, quality projects, and other enhancements to patient care.
• Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and standards of behaviors, and adhere to policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Maintain regular, reliable attendance to meet business needs of the department.

Qualifications

• Education: Must be actively enrolled in high school or equivalent program; high school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: Previous hospital or nursing home experience as a Patient Care Tech and/or completion of training in nursing school covering Patient Care Tech duties; must attend UPHSL Patient Care Tech training. Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire; Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
