About the role
Atlantic Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled individual to join our team as a Direct Patient Care Assistant. This position involves assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), hygiene, mobility, toileting, and emotional support. You will also administer basic treatments and support nursing personnel in providing direct patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assists with ADLs, hygiene, mobility, toileting, and emotional support.
- Administers basic treatments such as dressing changes, telemetry, and specimen collection.
- Supports nursing personnel in providing direct patient care.
- Assists patients with daily activities.
- Maintains accurate records of daily weights, vital signs, I&Os, and monitors patient condition.
- Measures and records vital signs, I&Os, and monitors patient condition.
- Performs blood glucose monitoring.
- Reports changes in patient condition to the primary nurse.
- Determines priorities of care and completes assignments as directed.
- Ensures patient rooms are neat and clean, checks for appropriate patient IDs, and responds to alarms.
- Provides emotional support to patients and significant others.
- Observes and responds to emotional needs of patients and/or significant others.
- Reports observations to the RN for follow-up.
- Seeks information regarding teaching goals for individual patients.
- Observes RN instructions to patients and provides consistent reinforcement as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- BLS Certification preferred.
- CNA Certification preferred.
- Nursing Students preferred with 1-2 years of previous patient care experience.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with OSHA, Joint Commission, and hospital safety protocols.
- Basic knowledge of patient care procedures and equipment.
