About the role

Nemours is seeking a Patient Care Technician (Med/Surg Unit) NIGHTS to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Aid patients with daily activities such as bathing, feeding, and playing.
  • Prepare patient rooms for admission ensuring cleanliness and proper equipment setup.
  • Participate in comfort rounds and report abnormal vital signs to the assigned RN.
  • Record intake and output of patients as directed by the RN.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of necessary equipment and supplies at designated levels.
  • Follow sterile techniques during formula preparation and adhere to Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics guidelines.
  • Ensure a clean and safe patient care environment.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record to document patient care provided.
  • Transport patients to other units and escort discharged patients to their vehicles.
  • Serve as a receptionist by answering telephones, call lights, greeting patients/families/visitors, updating and monitoring the child abduction system, and managing other software systems.
  • Participate in unit, departmental, and hospital education programs.
  • Adhere to the Nemours Standards of Behavior.
  • Deliver reports, supplies, etc., to other patient unit locations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively about patient needs with other departments as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement programs, identifying opportunities to enhance services and implement actions.
  • Attend unit/department meetings regularly.
  • Accept feedback and adjust care accordingly.
  • Support family-centered care in all patient care interactions.
  • Exemplify the professional image of the patient care services department by adhering to dress code standards, wearing identification badges, and using personal protective equipment.
  • Successfully complete annual hospital-wide and unit-based skills requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification by the State of Florida or successful completion of one full semester clinical rotations in an accredited School of Nursing.
  • One year of patient care experience preferred.
  • American Heart Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
