Nursing Assistant - PACU

Fairview is seeking a Nursing Assistant at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This role involves 64 hours per two-week pay period on the Day/Evening shift with 8-hour shifts and a weekend rotation every fourth weekend. Benefits such as medical and dental are available.

About This Unit

This unit, Pre and Post Op Care, is ideal for those with an interest in surgery. It is divided into multiple sections for both inpatient and outpatient care. Nursing Assistants are often the first point of contact for patients and assist with patient ADLs, vital signs, room setup, cleaning, and stocking.

Varying start times for this position include:

• 5:30am–2pm (Pre Op Start Time)
• 8am–4:30pm (SDS)
• 10:00am–6:30pm (Main)
• 2pm–10:30pm (Main)

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional nurse/caregiver in delivering patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and reordering and stocking supplies.
• Provide basic patient care, including:
  • Personal grooming, bathing, toileting
  • Feeding
  • Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes, applying ointments/creams)
  • Oral hygiene
  • Specimen collection/testing
  • Positioning/ambulating
  • Changing linens
  • Promptly answering call lights
• Assist the nurse in monitoring patient condition by:
  • Accurately taking and recording weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation
  • Placing patients on/off monitors or equipment
  • Reporting unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients, including:
  • Orienting patients and their families to the environment
  • Ensuring patient belongings are accounted for and documented upon admission, transfer, and discharge
• Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies, ensuring patients get to appointments on time and using transfer belts for safety.
• Clean, set up, and maintain rooms and equipment, including ordering and stocking supplies.
• Accurately document tasks performed on appropriate forms.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required. OnTrack participants must obtain this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

Candidates must meet one or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to maintain throughout employment).

Preferred Qualifications

• Current PACU experience.
