Nursing Assistant (NAR) - Float Pool
St. John’s in Maplewood, MN is growing, and so is our Float Pool! We are seeking Nursing Assistants to join our team, offering the opportunity to work across various units, build diverse clinical experience, and contribute to exceptional patient care throughout our organization. Our 184-bed facility provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services in a warm, inviting atmosphere with caring, personal staff.
About this Team
Looking for an opportunity to gain experience on multiple units? Our Float Pool team is an excellent choice. During orientation, you will be based in Medical Surgical units and will float to each unit with a preceptor. Your overall orientation time, as well as unit-specific orientation, will be determined by your level of experience.
A member of the interdependent team led by a designated RN, you will be accountable for performing patient care duties and activities for a group of patients, including vital sign checks, bladder scanning, blood sugar testing, and documentation of cares provided. You will report patient care data and progress to the designated RN.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates dedication to the universal guiding principles of the patient care model to achieve the Fairview Nursing vision.
- Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcome-focused patient care, aligning with Watson's theory of caring and the Professional Partnership Model.
- Communicates accurately and efficiently with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Reinforces patient education as advised by clinical staff.
- Documents patient information in the EHR and/or other electronic systems in accordance with program standards and department policies.
- Maintains knowledge of, and follows, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Performs other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
- Demonstrates strong attendance and reliability.
Qualifications
To fulfill job responsibilities, you must meet ONE or more of the following:
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (this requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment).
Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required. OnTrack participants must obtain this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
Pay
The starting base rate of pay for the Nursing Assistant is $23.06 per hour. Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.
Schedule
This position is 0.6 FTE (48 hours per two weeks) on the night shift, working 12-hour shifts every third weekend with a variable schedule.
