About the role
Nursing Assistant/Med Aide positions are available at the Norfolk Veterans Home (Evergreen). Full-time and part-time shifts are offered, including days, evenings, and nights.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality care for each member to maintain quality of life.
- Maintain dignity and confidentiality of members.
- Perform routine nursing duties in the general care of elderly members in the Veterans Home.
- Prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications and treatments.
- Under general supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse, provide basic nursing care, administer medications, and apply treatments for Veteran's Home members within the scope of the Nebraska Medication Aide Act, State of Nebraska Nursing Assistant regulations, and Veteran's Affairs regulations.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Completed a state-approved 76-hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program.
- Listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry.
- Successfully complete the Medication Aide course and be listed on the Medication Aide registry within the first year of employment.
Knowledge Of
- Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Nebraska Medication Aide Act, medication administration and adverse medication reactions.
- Regulations governing nursing assistants.
- Practices and principles of providing basic nursing assistance.
- Infection control practices.
- HIPAA regulations.
- Abuse and neglect identification and prevention.
- Safety principles.
- Privacy and dignity principles.
Skills In
- Providing basic nursing assistance.
- Administering medications.
Ability To
- Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull occasionally up to 75 lbs. on a daily basis.
- Frequently bend at the waist and neck and frequently twist at the waist and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift.
- Be flexible to meeting changing demands of the job.
- Lift, turn, and/or reposition members as needed.
- Interact with members and others in a positive manner.
- Be flexible to meet changing demands of the job.
