Understands and applies Henry Ford Health's mission statement by administering direct and indirect nursing care to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), according to hospital policy. Actively supports and participates in the activities of the unit. Specific duties are assigned according to department and the care delivery system of the unit.
Responsibilities
- Assists, under direction of the RN, in providing basic patient care duties including, but not limited to, taking vital signs, patient hygiene activities, feeding and bathing of patients, and post-mortem care.
- Performs activities of daily living appropriate to the patient’s condition.
- Administers, under direction of the RN, basic treatments to patient including, but not limited to, preparing special procedure set-up, I & O measurement, collection of urine and stools, application of cold/heat packs.
- Performs Glucose monitoring.
- Provides unit support by responding to call lights within 2-5 minutes, passing water and linens, locating equipment, stocking supplies, cleaning, and other non-clinical duties assigned by the RN.
- Assists in the transportation of patients.
- Assists in transporting specimens to the lab and collection of blood and blood products from Blood Bank.
- Obtains and delivers pharmacy orders as needed.
- Adheres to safety and infection control precautions.
- Maintains current BLS certification, mandatory continuing education, and mandatory competencies.
- Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission through performing behaviors consistent with the Standards of Performance and Code of Ethics.
- Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced by quality service and positive staff attitudes.
- Has access to and discloses personal health information only when reasonably necessary to perform designated job-related responsibilities; disclosure or use for any other purpose is prohibited.
- Performs other duties as assigned and needed, including non-clinical duties consistent with meeting the needs of the patient care team and unit operations.
- Identifies age-related differences within the persons served and adjusts treatment style and expectations as appropriate, including adjustments based on cognitive function and learning ability, while taking into account religious and cultural needs and preferences.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Current AHA BLS certification or obtain within first week of hire through HEART CODE required.
