Nursing Assistant / Cardiac Progressive Care /Full Time / Days /36 hrs

About the Role

Understands and applies Henry Ford Health's mission statement by administering direct and indirect nursing care to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), according to hospital policy. Actively supports and participates in the activities of the unit. Specific duties are assigned according to department and the care delivery system of the unit.

Responsibilities

• Assists, under direction of the RN, in providing basic patient care duties including, but not limited to, taking vital signs, patient hygiene activities, feeding and bathing of patients, and post-mortem care.
• Performs activities of daily living appropriate to the patient’s condition.
• Administers, under direction of the RN, basic treatments to patients including, but not limited to, preparing special procedure set-up, I & O measurement, collection of urine and stools, application of cold/heat packs, and glucose monitoring.
• Provides unit support by responding to call lights within 2-5 minutes, passing water and linens, locating equipment, stocking supplies, cleaning, and other non-clinical duties assigned by the RN.
• Assists in the transportation of patients, specimens to the lab, and collection of blood and blood products from Blood Bank.
• Obtains and delivers pharmacy orders as needed.
• Adheres to safety and infection control precautions.
• Maintains current BLS certification, mandatory continuing education, and mandatory competencies.
• Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission through behaviors consistent with the Standards of Performance and Code of Ethics.
• Promotes a positive work environment through quality service and positive staff attitudes.
• Accesses and discloses personal health information only when reasonably necessary for job-related responsibilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including non-clinical duties to meet the needs of the patient care team and unit operations.
• Adjusts treatment style and expectations based on age-related differences, cognitive function, learning ability, religious, and cultural needs of the persons served.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Current AHA BLS certification or obtain within the first week of hire through HEART CODE required.
