Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant to join the St. John’s Hospital team in Maplewood, MN. This hospital provides a warm, inviting atmosphere and a humble staff. About This Unit

This is a 33-bed Heart Care unit with rapid turnaround for patients who stay on average for 2.5 days. The typical patient population includes patients with observable chest pain, those ruling out cardiac-related issues, stroke patients, and individuals experiencing alcohol withdrawal. The unit prepares and recovers patients for stress tests, echocardiograms, and cardiac procedures such as diagnostic angiograms/stent placement, ablations, pacemaker and ICD insertions, and open-heart surgery. The unit also cares for many patients with heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias needing IV drips.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates dedication to the universal guiding principles of the patient care model to achieve the Fairview Nursing vision.
  • Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcome-focused patient care.
  • Aligns with Watson's theory of caring, the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses' Association, and the Professional Partnership Model.
  • Communicates accurately and efficiently with patient/family and health care team members.
  • Reinforces patient education as advised by clinical staff.
  • Documents patient information in EHR and/or other electronic systems in accordance with program standards, department policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and follows, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs patient care duties such as vital sign checks, bladder scanning, blood sugar testing, and documentation of care provided.
  • Reports patient care data and progress of outcomes to the designated RN.
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification. OnTrack participants must obtain this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to maintain throughout employment or for subsequent transfers into other Nursing Assistant roles).

Schedule

64 hours per two weeks on the Night shift, for 8-hour shifts, including every other weekend.
