This position is based at St. Mary's Medical Center, Building B, on the Level 14 General Surgery Unit (Department 2003940) in Duluth, Minnesota.

About the role

As a Nursing Assistant, you are responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN) to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Qualifications

Education

  • Must meet one of the following requirements:
    • 6 months of nursing assistant experience
    • Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program
    • Enrollment into the Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation Course within 30 days of hire
    • Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program
    • Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

Licensure & Certification

  • BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date
  • If qualified through the Essentia Health Foundation Course (East Market, excluding WI): Completion of Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation course within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs
  • Providing comfort care and other assistance
  • Appropriately and safely transferring patients
  • Taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping
  • Recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN
  • Maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process

Schedule

  • 48 hours every two weeks (0.6 FTE)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Rotating 8-hour shifts:
    • Day Shift: 6:00am – 2:30pm
    • Evening Shift: 2:00pm – 10:30pm
    • Night Shift: 10:00pm – 6:30am
  • Holidays required
  • No call obligation

Compensation

Hourly range: $17.39 – $22.45. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a hiring incentive of up to $1,500 (restrictions may apply).

  • Shift rotation: Day/Eve rotation (shift start times 6am, 2pm; end times 2:30pm, 10:30pm)
  • Possible remote/hybrid option noted (though direct patient care role typically on-site)
