Description Of Position

The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse. SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
  • Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
  • Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity).
  • Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff.
  • Collections information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
  • Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
  • Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.
  • Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Utilizes unit specific equipment competently.
  • Competently performs unit specific procedures.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
  • Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
  • Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

Requirements

  • High school graduate/GED preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement.
  • Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Able to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Able to work weekends.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations.
  • May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients.
  • Able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
