About the role
The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse. This position reports directly to the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions
- Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
- Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity)
- Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff
- Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake
- Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks
- Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards
- Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care
- Utilizes unit specific equipment competently
- Competently performs unit specific procedures
- Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan
- Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations
- Follows established hospital/department safety policies
- Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions
Qualifications
- High school graduate/GED preferred
- Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement
- Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred
- CPR certified preferred
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel
- Ability to exercise independent judgment
- Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight
- Exhibits organizational and leadership ability
Work environment & physical demands
- Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time
- Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations
- May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel
