Nursing Assistant- Full Time - 7p-7a

About the role

The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse. This position reports directly to the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions
• Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
• Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity)
• Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff
• Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake
• Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks
• Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards
• Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care
• Utilizes unit specific equipment competently
• Competently performs unit specific procedures
• Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan
• Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations
• Follows established hospital/department safety policies
• Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions

Qualifications

• High school graduate/GED preferred
• Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement
• Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred
• CPR certified preferred
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel
• Ability to exercise independent judgment
• Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight
• Exhibits organizational and leadership ability

Work environment & physical demands

• Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time
• Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations
• May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients
• Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel
