About the role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per care plan. A member of the nursing team, accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic health care needs and daily living activities including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
  • Provide psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
  • Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
  • Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience; assist residents with meals and snacks, provide water and supplements as appropriate.
  • Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
  • Document resident interactions, outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Communicate resident’s changing condition and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with clean and operational living areas.
  • Assist and document wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.
  • May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of hire by enrolling in a training program or obtaining certification through Endorsement.
  • CNA training and certification provided by facility.
  • Satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
  • Maintain all department-specific required certifications.
  • When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry for applicable states.
  • May require a motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license if role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.

Pay

Salary range: $20.00 - $25.50 per hour. $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Schedule

  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
