About the role

Nursing Assistants are responsible for working closely with the nurse to provide excellent direct patient care. This person supports activities of daily living (ADLs) with patients and prevents complications.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care: toileting, ambulating, repositioning, monitoring and recording intake and output of fluids, recording patient weight, obtaining vital signs, and reporting abnormal findings or changes in the patient's conditions to the RN.
  • Reinforcing education with patients; i.e. incentive spirometer use, and fall prevention.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized patient bedside area to ensure a safe workspace.
  • Intentionally rounding on each patient every hour.
  • Completion of mandatory orientation training: one full week of Monday through Friday 8a-4p prior to starting work on the unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • BLS certification (will be provided if needed).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NYS Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA).
  • Previous patient care experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent hand and finger use (e.g., to operate a computer keyboard).
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. (e.g., boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require.
  • Capacity to operate job-related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Schedule

  • Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center: 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850.
  • Two (2) 12-hour shifts 7am - 7pm per week, weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • 0% travel expected in this role.

Pay

Standard rate of $19.47 - $25.75 per hour plus benefits.
