About the role

The nursing assistant will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Duties include providing for activities of daily living such as serving meals, feeding patients, providing fresh water and nourishment between meals, assisting with personal hygiene, and providing comfort measures. Additional responsibilities involve transporting patients, answering call lights, ambulating, turning and positioning patients, and reporting observations to the patient’s nurse. The nursing assistant will document actions completed as appropriate, follow organizational policies and procedures, protect patient information, and participate in educational opportunities to maintain and update knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with serving meals, feeding patients, and providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Provide personal hygiene assistance to patients who are unable to assist themselves.
  • Assist in transporting patients, answering patient call lights, ambulating, turning, and positioning patients.
  • Report observations to the patient’s nurse.
  • Document actions completed as appropriate.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the organization and protect patient information.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to update knowledge.
  • Identify each patient’s age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.

Requirements

  • A high school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant Program preferred.
  • BLS certification required (or obtain within one month of hire).

Skills

  • A commitment to service excellence and performance improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with legible penmanship and computer knowledge.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate with RN/LPN staff to report changes in patient's conditions.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care to the Med-Surg patient.

Schedule

  • Rotation of 3 - 12-hour shifts.
