Nursing Assistant

Position Summary

Responsible for Resident services and other duties as assigned, and the appropriate delegation of duties to the other staff and volunteers.

Position Responsibilities

• Adheres to and conveys philosophy of supporting dignity, privacy, independence, choice, individuality, and a home-like environment for Resident.
• Receives and gives report from the previous shift.
• Reviews assignments with Designated Supervisor.
• Reads the staff communication records and maintains familiarity with Resident records as required.
• Aids in the orientation of new staff to job responsibilities.
• Aids with instrumental activities of daily living (ADLs), environmental orientation, and assistance with other care while encouraging self-care and independence.
• Aids with setting up, serving meals, and cleaning up afterwards.
• Provides services as indicated on Resident service plans, including but not limited to bathing assistance, toileting assistance, transfer, and mobility assistance.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control procedures.
• Maintains a clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for Residents, staff, and visitors, including housekeeping services for Residents.
• Observes problems, concerns, and issues with Resident units, the building, and the grounds and communicates them appropriately.
• Observes changes in Resident status, needs, or preferences and communicates them appropriately.
• Observes other problems and communicates them appropriately.
• Observes all work, safety, and administrative rules.
• Adheres to all established policies and procedures.
• Records Resident information as required.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to procedures for fire, life safety, disaster, security, work, safety, and other emergency situations.
• Aids with individual Resident and group social recreational activities.
• Notifies nurse, and/or designated agent(s) of Resident status/change as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Keeps all information confidential.
• Maintains acceptable attendance record/follows work schedule.
• Displays cleanliness, good grooming, personal appearance and follows dress requirements consistently.
• Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks; requires minimal supervision.
• Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action.
• Interacts in professional manner with Residents, public and co-workers.
• Works cooperatively with management.
• Displays willingness to assist co-workers when situation requires.
• Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; able to communicate effectively.
• Able to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
• Able to work safely and to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
• Able/willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; 35 pounds regularly.
• Routinely requires pushing, pulling, bending, walking, reaching, and stooping.

Training And Experience

• 18 – 24 months experience in a similar position, CPR/First Aid certified preferred.
• Twelve (12) plus years of education preferred.
• Attendance at mandatory in-service training.
• Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Meet in-service training hours required for job classification and position.
