Nursing Assistant

About the Role

Responsible for resident services and other duties as assigned, including appropriate delegation of duties to staff and volunteers. This role supports resident well-being through personal services, housekeeping, laundry, social-recreational activities, medication assistance, meal services, and other tasks as needed.

Reports to: Health Services Director/Designee

Responsibilities

• Adheres to and conveys the philosophy of supporting dignity, privacy, independence, choice, individuality, and a home-like environment for residents.
• Receives and gives reports from the previous shift.
• Reviews assignments with the designated supervisor.
• Reads staff communication records and maintains familiarity with resident records as required.
• Assists with the orientation of new staff to job responsibilities.
• Assists with instrumental activities of daily living (ADLs), environmental orientation, and other care while encouraging self-care and independence.
• Assists with setting up, serving meals, and cleaning up afterward.
• Provides services as indicated on resident service plans, including but not limited to bathing assistance, toileting assistance, transfer, and mobility assistance.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control procedures.
• Maintains a clean, neat, comfortable, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors, including housekeeping services for residents.
• Observes problems, concerns, and issues with resident units, the building, and the grounds and communicates them appropriately.
• Observes changes in resident status, needs, or preferences and communicates them appropriately.
• Observes all work, safety, and administrative rules.
• Adheres to all established policies and procedures.
• Records resident information as required.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to procedures for fire, life safety, disaster, security, work, safety, and other emergency situations.
• Assists with individual resident and group social-recreational activities.
• Notifies nurse and/or designated agent(s) of resident status/change as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Willingness to adhere to assisted living principles in providing services.
• Ability and willingness to perform all position responsibilities adequately.
• Keeps all information confidential.
• Maintains an acceptable attendance record and follows the work schedule.
• Displays cleanliness, good grooming, personal appearance, and consistently follows dress requirements.
• Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
• Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action.
• Interacts in a professional manner with residents, the public, and co-workers; works cooperatively with management.
• Displays willingness to assist co-workers when the situation requires.
• Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; able to communicate effectively.
• Ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
• Ability to work safely and recognize potentially dangerous situations.
• Ability and willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds regularly.
• Routinely requires pushing, pulling, bending, walking, reaching, and stooping.

Qualifications

• 18–24 months of experience in a similar position.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Twelve (12) plus years of education preferred.
• Attendance at mandatory in-service training.
• Maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
• Meet in-service training hours required for job classification and position.
