About the Role

Assists professional nursing staff by performing specific resident care tasks within the scope of practice of a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required upon hire or transfer to the department.
  • Listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or transfer to the department.
  • Successful completion of general and nursing orientation within three (3) months of hire.

Competencies

Completion of the following competencies within three (3) months of hire or transfer to the department:

  • Unit orientation and unit safety
  • Attendance requirements and Code Blue participation
  • Safe, effective patient care: patient identification, vital signs, inputs/outputs, personal care, bed-making, patient transfer, and reporting
  • Appropriate and timely documentation
  • Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Technical skills including equipment use
  • Body substance isolation
  • Age-specific care
  • Professional communication
  • Restraint training
  • Safe handling for patients receiving chemotherapy

  • Varied work hours and shifts
  • May encounter exposure to infectious diseases
