About the role

Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The unit is an 8 North East and West CPCU, a 68-bed cardiac step-down unit providing intermediate level of care for patients with cardiac diagnoses such as coronary artery disease (CAD), congestive heart failure (CHF), myocardial infarction (MI), and heart arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation (A‑fib) and ventricular tachycardia (V‑Tach). The unit also provides pre‑ and post‑procedure care for patients who have undergone cardiac catheterization/angioplasty, stent placement, ablations, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation. Nurses receive specialized training in arterial sheath removal and Tikosyn administration and are ACLS certified; all patients are continuously monitored by telemetry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to the patient according to the plan of care, specific unit routines and hospital policy under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
  • Safely transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher, using dispatch services and appropriate documentation.
  • Provide observer services for patients requiring constant observation (in‑person or remote video monitoring) to maximize safety.
  • Perform general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
  • Maintain current knowledge/certification.
  • Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/unit team, both inter‑ and intra‑departmentally, to facilitate meeting goals and objectives.
