About the role
Rappahannock Community College (RCC) invites applications for adjunct nursing instructor positions at our Glenns and Warsaw campuses and remote clinical agencies. Multiple part-time opportunities are available, including:
- Nursing Didactic Instructors for Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program
- Nursing Laboratory/Clinical Instructors for Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program
- Nursing Didactic/Laboratory/Clinical Instructors for Practical Nursing (PN) program
- Nurse Aide Instructors
Responsibilities
Adjunct instructors work across programs to meet the educational needs of students. They are expected to:
- Provide laboratory and clinical supervision for all levels of nursing students
- Teach didactic and laboratory courses
- Participate in the governance of the nursing unit
- Engage in professional development and continuous improvement
- Create a collegial environment of civility, collaboration, and open communication
- Assist the agency or state government in emergencies
Requirements
Qualifications vary depending on the specific position:
- Nursing Didactic Instructors for ADN program:
- Master’s degree in Nursing or baccalaureate degree with enrollment in a graduate program
- RN license with two years of direct client care experience
- PREFERRED: Critical Care, Maternal-Child Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and/or Mental Health Nursing experience
- PREFERRED: One year of experience teaching pre-licensure education
- STRONGLY PREFERRED: Strong desire to teach adult learners
- Nursing Laboratory/Clinical Instructors for ADN program:
- Baccalaureate degree or associate degree with enrollment in a baccalaureate program
- RN license with two years of direct client care experience
- PREFERRED: Critical Care, Maternal-Child Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and/or Mental Health Nursing experience
- PREFERRED: One year of experience teaching pre-licensure education
- STRONGLY PREFERRED: Strong desire to teach adult learners
- Nursing Didactic/Laboratory/Clinical Instructors for PN program:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing or associate degree with enrollment in a baccalaureate degree program
- RN license with two years of direct client care experience
- PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Nursing with additional long-term care experience
- PREFERRED: One year of experience teaching pre-licensure education
- Nurse Aide Instructors:
- Licensed practical nurse with at least one year of direct client care experience
- Evidence of completing the Nurse Aide Train-the-Trainer course or willingness to complete within 30 days of hire
- PREFERRED: One year of experience teaching pre-licensure education
- Valid Virginia RN license
- Current CPR certification
- Experience with diverse student populations, including adult learners and at-risk students
- Commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement
- Knowledge of best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies
- Ability to teach adult learners
- Experience with critical care, maternal-child nursing, pediatric nursing, and mental health nursing
- Experience with long-term care
- Experience with emergency management and crisis response

Pay
The salary range for these positions is $793 to $1,463 per credit hour, commensurate with education and experience.
