About the Unit
The units 3CN, 4CN, and 5CN offer a dynamic patient care experience:
- 3CN is a ten-bed unit specializing in general surgery, vascular, and thoracic patients. It is the only progressive care unit in the hospital that can monitor arterial lines.
- 5CN is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery unit. It receives patients directly from the ICU and can monitor patients on various anti-arrhythmics. The unit focuses on discharge planning and readiness.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients:
- Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing, personal grooming, ambulating, moving, and turning patients.
- Assists patients with bedpans or urinary devices, makes patient beds, and cares for personal property.
- Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches, sitz baths, or peri care.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing. May be enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) program. Note: ADN graduates will be required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.
- Required: RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure or Graduate Nurse from an accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
- Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
- High School Diploma required.
- Evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA (American Heart Association) or ARC (American Red Cross) required upon hire.
