About the Unit

The Neuro Critical Care Unit is an Intensive Care Unit within the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center and is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions, including Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs.

Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care. This team has developed a culture of collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning.

Responsibilities

• Take vitals and check blood sugars
• Perform bed bathing and assist with ambulating patients
• Provide wound care and catheterization
• Act as a safety attendant for patients
• Ensure required documentation is performed accurately and timely
• Act as a team member in delivering quality patient care within clinics alongside RNs/Providers
• Perform basic skills per department guidelines and communicate observations to healthcare team members
• Collect and report physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider

Orientation Requirements

Orientation for this role will require availability for 3 daytime training shifts per week (Monday–Thursday, along with rotating weekends) for up to 10 weeks.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days
• Experience in direct patient care is preferred
