About the Role

A nurse tech provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), including procedures, activities of daily living, and operating equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.

The nurse tech must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and be able to assess data reflective of the patient’s status to provide age-appropriate care as described in the unit’s policies and procedures.

This is a PRN (as-needed) position at Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.

Responsibilities

• Perform selected nursing functions under the direction of an RN.
• Provide direct patient care, including procedures and activities of daily living.
• Operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
• Conduct assessments and treatments specific to the assigned unit.
• Interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.

Requirements

• Must be a nursing student (RN or LPN) within one year of graduating from an accredited nursing program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification completed prior to starting on the unit and maintained going forward.
• Medical background is required; prior experience is preferred but not required.
