Nurse Supervisor LPN Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and leadership to all on-duty nursing staff during non-business hours.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels, monitor workflow, and assist with prioritizing patient care tasks.
  • Address staff concerns and promote a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Act as the highest-ranking on-site authority during after-hours and weekends.
  • Make timely decisions related to patient care, staffing, safety, and operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments when needed and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Offer clinical expertise and support in resolving patient care challenges.
  • Assist with complex cases or difficult family situations.
  • Handle call-ins or last-minute staffing changes, ensuring coverage and continuity of care.
  • Makes frequent rounds to note resident/patient conditions and to ensure nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
  • Give and receive the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
  • Ensures assigned work area (i.e. nurse station, med. Cart, medication room, etc.), resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Ensures medication rooms and medication carts are locked according to regulation.
  • Maintains close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
  • Provides required resident assessments/observations and interventions, reviewing care plans to ensure appropriate care.
  • Documents all pertinent data as required by Medicare, Medicaid, company standards and policies.
  • Ensures that direct nursing care be provided by a licensed nurse, a certified nursing assistant, and/or a nurse aide trainee qualified to perform the procedure.
  • Attends and participates in in-service classes, performance improvement (“PI”) committees, continuing education in-service programs and other meetings as assigned.

Nurse Supervisor LPN Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate to others.
  • Understands and follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
  • Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with short and long-term care residents and the elderly.
  • Demonstrate basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications. Microsoft Office version 1997, 2000 or XP, MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, E-mail, Outlook, Internet Explorer.

Nurse Supervisor LPN Education and Experience

  • Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited College or University.
  • Possess a current license to practice in the State as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Long-Term care and MDS experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards.
  • Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
  • Meet all health requirements as needed.
