Nurse - Substitute

About the role

Located at 739 College Ave., Lancaster, OH 43130, this intermittent position in the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities – Educational Services department provides nursing services to students in an educational setting. The incumbent reports to the Educational Programs Supervisor/Principal and must comply with Board policies, respect the dignity and rights of individuals served, and maintain professional ethics.

Responsibilities

• 40% – Provides general nursing care to students; performs skilled nursing procedures; administers prescribed medication per physician direction; maintains medication accountability records, equipment, and supplies; screens for communicable and nuisance diseases; consults with instructors, parents/guardians on health and safety issues; assists with personal health‑related matters (grooming, hygiene, safety, nutrition); assists in developing health and safety policies and procedures.
• 20% – Requests, secures, and follows up on medical information for assigned students; prepares and maintains written reports on student medical history, program objectives, progress data, and other required documentation.
• 5% – Relates program philosophy, procedures, and goals to the general public in a positive manner.
• 5% – Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of information.
• 5% – Maintains cooperative relationships with coworkers and each child’s family to facilitate Individual Education Plan implementation.
• 5% – Performs other related duties as assigned.
• 5% – Complies with Safety Rules for Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, using protective equipment and decontamination techniques.
• 5% – Trains staff, monitors, and delegates medication and nursing tasks per County Board policy, Ohio Nursing Board, and Ohio Department of DD guidelines.
• 4% – Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and modifying Individual Education Plans.
• 3% – Participates in or provides staff training, reads professional literature, attends seminars, workshops, or classes to enhance knowledge in nursing care, health, safety, behavior modification, systematic training, counseling, mental retardation, seizures, and other medical/school health topics.
• 2% – Available for parent conferences throughout the year.
• 1% – Directs the work of assistants, volunteers, students in training, and enrollees in training as directed.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with an driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier; maintains personal vehicle insurance
• Ability to accurately, efficiently, and effectively use technology to assist students with communication and complete required training/certification processes
• Successfully pass a BCII background check and drug screening
• Experience in the developmental disabilities field preferred
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. per lifting policy, and able to carry or move students safely per in‑service training

Pay

$31.10 per hour

Schedule

Typically 8 paid hours per day, Monday–Friday, with shifts of 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., or 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. as scheduled.
