About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a Student & Staff Support at Hawthorne Elementary. Starting compensation is $25.78 hourly wage (25-26 Salary Schedule). The employment type is Non-Exempt.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic emergency care for illness or injury
• Maintain student health records, via computers and patient care records
• Notify appropriate personnel of emergency situations, including parents, physicians, building personnel, and hospitals
• Maintain cleanliness of the health office, including health office laundry
• Assist in school health screening follow up
• Prepare bulletin board displays
• Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Experience working with students with diabetes
• Experience working in a Windows environment
• Experience working cross-culturally or commitment to improve cultural competence
• Licensed RN, LPN, or completion of MATC-MMSD School Nurse's Assistant course in the past 2 years
• CPR/AED certification
• First Aid certification
• Prior experience working with school age children preferred
• Fluency in Spanish or Hmong desired
• Prior experience working in middle or high school setting as nurse's assistant
• Demonstrated skill working in fast-paced environment with need to multitask throughout the day

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse students, staff, and community, orally and in writing
• Ability to follow oral and written directions
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to direct others
• Able to type at least 40 w.p.m.

Skills

• Able to make judgments and perform when confronted with emergency situations
