About the role
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is seeking a part-time Nurse RN to support their 28-day residential programs: Kenmore and Elgin Next Steps. This position is fully remote, with a minimum of 10 hours/week and a maximum of 25 hours/week.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an initial medical screening with clients as well as screenings with outpatient clients at identified facilities.
- Review each client’s risk for HIV and TB infection as well as medications (prescribed and over-the-counter) used by the client.
- Complete Medical Screening tool in the EHR platform and indicate immediate recommendations regarding physical examination, psychiatric examinations, prenatal care, and/or other client care needs.
- Provide clients with referrals for medical, surgical, obstetric, psychiatric, or laboratory services as needed.
- Ensure adherence to ethical standards of treatment, including NASW Code of Ethics.
- Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures.
- Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner and meets all requirements.
- Comply with documentation and productivity standards.
- Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individuals in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- An RN license is required.
- One to three years of experience in mental health and/or substance use field is preferred.
- Familiarity with accreditation and licensure standards is required.
- Trained and proficient in utilizing an Electronic Health Record is required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, verbally and written, is required.
- Excellent organization, presentation, and PC/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software, are required.
- An annual TB test is required.
- A background check clearance is required.
- A valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency, is preferred.
- Access to reliable transportation is preferred.
- A valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury, and property damage, is preferred.
Qualifications

- Trained and proficient in utilizing an Electronic Health Record is required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, verbally and written, is required.
