Responsibilities
- Screen and assess each patient for co-existing medical problems to assess risk factors affecting appropriate placement for treatment.
- Administer medication/treatments as ordered in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure adequate recording of the medication administration transaction has occurred.
- Ensure the treatment plan of the physician and/or medical director is followed.
- Facilitate and educate patients in a group process to include chemical dependency issues, infectious disease, medical and mental health issues.
- Administer, interpret, and keep accurate documentation of Mantoux test for teammates.
- Absess patient response to treatments and medications, interactions, and effectiveness.
- Document and summarize individual nursing care for each patient and communicate changes, progress, and/or immediate medical care needs to the provider for follow-up consultation.
- Order medical supplies, maintain a proper inventory and record of use as per Regulations.
- Maintain all medical records including individual charts, daily medication charts, dosage records, progress notes, doctor’s orders, etc., as required.
- Make appointments for patients to see physician; obtain lab workups and check with patients to ensure appointments are kept.
- Counsel patients regarding personal hygiene, abnormal lab results, HIV/AIDS testing, and all medical matters including changes in treatment.
- Discuss with physician and team important changes in treatment or noted patterns of behavior affecting treatment.
- Provide referral for specialized care at local health centers (e.g., Planned Parenthood, prenatal clinic, HIV/AIDS testing sites, etc.) and follow-up on patients' attendance and treatment.
- Assist in organizing transfers of patients to and from different levels of care.
- Aid in training teammates in medical conditions, responses, and patient care.
- Maintain continuing education credits as required by the Board of Nursing.
- Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.
- May assist the doctor during physical examinations.
- Keep medication room clean and orderly; maintain medical equipment.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
- Prior experience with chemical addiction and/or mental health disease including psychopharmacology.
- CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working in substance abuse and/or mental health field.
- The ability to triage in an emergency, assisting in medical emergencies.
- Experience applying infection prevention and control practices in a substance use or residential treatment setting.
Preferred
- Three (3) years of experience with chemical addiction and/or mental disorders including psych pharmacotherapy.
