About the role

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a full-time 40-hour 4-day per week Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Associate.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies both in an outpatient clinic setting and an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data, diagnose and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient's hematologic/oncologic diagnosis, perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician, prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
  • Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment and end of life care.
  • Work with patients regarding treatment side effects with goals of improving quality of life while receiving chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy.
  • Facilitate advance care planning, medical decision-making and educate patients on the Death with Dignity Law.
  • Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.

Requirements

  • State of Maine and New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner/Physicians Associate license required or the ability to obtain.
  • Palliative Care experience required.
  • Experience in Oncology and Hematology preferred.
  • Master's Degree Required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
  • Ability to communicate with patients in a clear, concise, and compassionate manner.
