Nurse Practitioner - Physician Assistant - Urgent Care

About the role

We are seeking an Urgent Care Physician Assistant to join our dedicated team. You will work as part of an inter-professional team in an outpatient clinic setting, telehealth visits, and occupational medicine. Your role includes providing efficient, high-quality, cost-effective care, obtaining patient histories, performing assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, managing health conditions, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
  • Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
  • Performs duties including but not limited to ordering and interpreting radiology tests, Point of Care Testing and lab testing, EKG reading, minor procedures (lacerations, incision and drainage abscesses), and pediatric population (6 month and older).
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Trains and educates staff, including new APPs and students.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the state of practice as a Physician Assistant.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority within the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
  • 3 years' related working experience.

Skills

  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
  • Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Ability to work independently as clinics are typically single or double provider coverage.
