About the role

We are seeking an Urgent Care Physician Assistant to join our dedicated team at Ochsner Health. Responsibilities

  • Works as part of an inter-professional team to provide efficient, high quality, cost effective care in the outpatient clinic setting, telehealth visit, and occupational medicine.
  • Obtains patient history and performs assessments using interview, observation and physical examination and orders and interprets diagnostic testing as needed for patient care and provides direct patient care and management of health conditions utilizing prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, staff development and education, patient and patient caregiver education and assumes responsibility for professional development.
  • Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
  • Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
  • Performs duties including but not limited to ordering and in interpreting radiology tests, Point of Care Testing and lab testing, EKG reading, minor procedures (lacerations, incision and drainage abscesses), and pediatric population (6 month and older).
  • Provides training and education to staff, including new APPs and students.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the state of practice as a Physician Assistant
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority within the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program
  • 3 Years’ Related Working Experience

Skills

  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level
  • Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule including weekend and holiday coverage
  • Able to work independently as clinics are typically single or double provider coverage

Pay

The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This position offers a flexible schedule, including weekend and holiday coverage.
