COORDINATES AND DELIVERS PRIMARY AND NURSING CARE

  • Working within the approved scope of practice as designated for this type of professional.
  • Obtaining complete medical history and physical data on patients.
  • Interpreting and integrating data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Performing a complete physical exam and recording findings.
  • Collaborating with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesizing data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Administering medications and injections according to physician direction. Suturing minor lacerations.
  • Interviewing and advising patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Recommending community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instructing patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Maintaining and reviewing patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Posting tests and examination results.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and providing consultation.
  • Coordinating or when appropriate managing medical and surgical emergencies.
  • Providing monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

PROVIDES CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE TO BMG PROGRAMS

  • Participating in health education.
  • Maintaining related records and statistical data and preparing statistical reports as needed.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary care conferences and assisting with referrals and dissemination of information to appropriate vendors.
  • Assisting in the development and coordination of ongoing education and follow-up programs designed to measure client outcomes.

PERFORMS OTHER FUNCTIONS TO MAINTAIN PERSONAL COMPETENCE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • Aiding in the development and compliance of clinical protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Participating in quality review and improvement programs; monitoring quality and outcomes of care rendered.
  • Communicating with physician(s) to ensure the quality and timeliness for services rendered to patients.
  • Performing other job related assignments and special projects as directed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • A valid and current RN license in the state of Indiana is required.
  • The successful completion of a nurse practitioner program with applicable national certification is required.
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience in practice area and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner six month internship for new graduates or comparable experience is required.
  • Master's of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Attainment of prescriptive authority or successful completion of applicable course work and pass state board exam to obtain prescriptive authority within six months of hire date.
  • Bilingual speaking and/or writing skills are a plus.
