About the role

The nurse practitioner/physician assistant provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examinations, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains comprehensive patient histories and performs complete physical examinations.
  • Orders and performs diagnostic testing and screenings.
  • Diagnoses illness and prescribes treatments.
  • Provides health maintenance and promotion interventions.
  • Affirms accountability for indirect care responsibilities, including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
  • Affirms accountability for clerical functions as necessary.

Requirements

  • Completion of Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP/PA.
  • Certification through the Alabama board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
  • Works well with others in a team environment.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred.
